Mark Zuckerberg

(1984-       )

If you don’t know what Facebook is, you must be from another planet. Facebook is a social networking service which has more than 600 million active users.

Mark Elliot Zuckerberg is an American computer programmer and internet entrepenur. He is best known for creating the social networking site Facebook, of which he is chief executive and president. Born may 14, 1984 in Dobbs Ferry, New York, he had a big interest in computers. Even though, his father was a dentist, he studied Computer Science.

When he was 12, he created “Zucknet” a messaging program which his father used in his dental office. Zuckerberg’s parents saw that his son had an innate gift that should be developed, so they hired a pivate computer tutor, David Newman to come to their house once a week and work with Mark.

The tutor later said that it was hard to stay ahead of Mark.

In the early 2000’s, Mark created Synapse Media Player which was a musical app. It was an early version of the musical software Pandora.

Mark loved computers. However, he also won prizes in science (Math, Astronomy and Physics,). He was also a fencing star and capitan of the fencing team.

He speaks English, French, Hebrew, Latin, ancient Greek and he studies MandarinChinese to talk with his chinese girlfriend: Priscila Chan.

The beginning of Facebook started with “FaceMash” which compared the pictures of two students on campus and allowed users to vote on which one was more attractive.

It was criticized by Harvard University, who said it was innapropriate.

Finally, the biggest creation of Zuckerberg was launched in February 2004. First it was just for Harvard’s students but then it was for all the world.

Without doubt it’s one of the best social networks, and for some people the best.

For connecting more than a half billion people and for changing how we live our lives, Mark Elliot Zuckerberg is Time’s 2010 person of the year.

E-books against books.

The introduction of e-books is a big phenomenon around the world. But what is happening with the normal books? Are they going to be replaced by the technology?.
This is starting to be a big controversial issue. I’m not against e-books because they have a lot of advantages. Nevertheless, I disagree that normal books should disappear.

  • E-books can cause many eye problems.

First of all, to read an e-book you need a tablet computer. But this device projects a lot of light like computers. For this reason it isn’t beneficial to be in front of this device for more than an hour. Nevertheless, reading a book takes at least 1 or 2 hour per day.
  • People will loose interest.

Some people say that reading an electronic book is not the same asreading a normal book. Here are some examples:
  • First, it isn’t the same as having a big book in your hands. Having a book in your hands making you see how big it is, and it’s a goal to finish it. Yet, e-books don’t show you how big the book is. Sometimes you are desperate because you turn the page and it seems that it doesn’t have an end.
  • Second, tablet computers, like ipads, have many apps. They are not just for reading a book, you can also play, chat and do a lot of things at the same time. It could be a distractor and put your attention out of the book.
  • Being a writer won’t be profitable.

You have to pay for a book yet, e-books are free. Being a writer was a well-paid profession. Nowadays, copyright laws are violated and for this reason writers don’t earn the same money as they used to.
  • Arguments against.

On the other side people who are in favor of e-books say that it could be the solution of pollution. If publishing houses stop printing books, a lot of paper will be saved, and with this a lot of trees will not be cut. Also, using ink that is really pollutant will not be produced in big quantities, etc.
They say that with tablet computers we can care more for our planet. We have to be in favor of technology, because it’ll be the future and normal books are in the past.
E-books are free, so a lot of people will loose their jobs. I know that it can sound kind of dramatic, but if normal books are replaced by e-books:
  1. Book stores will not have anything to sell.
  2. Publishing houses will not have anything to print.
  3. Libraries will not have anything to offer.
  • Conclusion.

In my opinion, I think that having technology and using it in a good way is awesome. However, e-books should never replace normal books.

“No one under 18 should be allowed to drive.”

Nowadays we see the car as if it’s a necessity and not like a transport. Do we really need it?
The car is an option which more people are choosing in big cities and its use has become widespread.
Driving has many advantages such as going wherever you want, going faster etc. However, driving can cause problems and in the worst cases: accidents. The possibility of having an accident increases with teenagers.
If you are a teenager, I recommend you read this article.

Teenagers don’t have the same experience as adults.

When we see a teenager driving, sometimes we feel afraid, but why? It’s because probably they are learning to drive and obviously no one is perfect when you are in that situation.
It’s critical that Teenagers who are close to being 18 years old be accompanied by an adult.

Why teenagers drive.

There are many reasons that teenagers have to drive. It depends on the person, but the most common reasons are because  they want to feel the speed and sometimes they just want to brag. Students feel that they can go wherever they want faster and if they have a nice car, it’s a symbol of money.

Teenagers can cause many accidents.

Everybody can have an accident, but the probability increases when you don’t have the experience and the mentality of an adult. The majority of teenagers don’t think about the risk. They just do whatever they want and they think that they are young and young people don’t die. They are not responsible, and for this reason, many accidents happen every day.

Parents have to pay for their sons.

When we are minors our parents are responsible for us and it means that if we do something wrong (in this case cause an accident,) they will be responsible. They have to pay, but sometimes with their freedom, and in many cases they go to jail.
Parents recommend that their children drive with caution, but teenagers don’t care, and if they cause an accident, they’ll only receive a scolding.

Conclusion

I know that driving a car is something awesome: You can go faster, do many things, and be comfortable. The advantages are many, but we have to keep in mind that teenagers don’t have the mentality of adults. It’s important that you know that having a car is not a game  and like my mom says:

“Everything has its time”

Being a little rebel could be good

Last week the Panamerican Games tickets were on sale and of course I wanted to have one of them, but my parents didn’t, so I had to make some decisions by myself. Here is all that I had to do to buy my ticket.

  • Always there is a friend to induce you toward the bad .

My best friend is a volunteer for the Panamerican’s Games. This means that he will be in some of the games and last week he told me that he will be in the inauguration. He doesn’t want to be alone, so he invited me, and of course I told him that I would like to go but my parents didn’t want it. He said: “It’s better to apologize than ask for permission.” I told him that I’m a good girl and I couldn’t.
  • I demostrated to my parents that I can do things by myself

When I arrived home from school, I told my mom and my dad that I would be in the inauguration of the Panamerican Games. Obvi

ously, they said that I was crazy and  that they would never allow me to go by myself: It was too dangerous and It would be too late. So I was a little rebellious and I told them that I understood their position, but I really wanted to be there. I had a c
redit card and I would buy a ticket with permission or without it. They said again, “You are C R A Z Y”.

  • Being a little rebel works

That night I was on the computer and my mom asked me, “Will you go?” I answered,      “Of course,” so she said, “Can I do something to change your mind?” I said, “NO”.
In the morning I was buying the tickets and my mom told me “I can see you won’t change your mind so I’ll buy another one for your brother because I don’t want you to be alone.” Then my dad said, “Buy another for me” (I knew since the beginning that he wanted to go).
  • I have what I want

In the end I bought 3 tickets. I know that I did wrong, but it doesn’t matter because now I have what I really want.

Magazines

Nowadays magazines are really popular and engrossing. Every 7 or 15 days people usually go to the newsstand to have this popular item.
In a magazine there are a variety of articles, information, opinions, news and unquestionably too many advertisements.
There is a magazine for all kind of necessities and the best of all is that every week or every two weeks you can have a new one for a low price.

I did some research on the internet and I found many interesting opinions:

  • Honestly, science magazines are purchased the least.
Definitely, science magazines are the most informative because you can learn and be informed about all the events that are happening around the world.
Unfortunately, people don’t see this and they prefer to read other kinds of publications.

  • All the information that is in a magazine is evidently not true.
The information that’s published in a magazine is supposedly true but not surprisingly, it’s not. Editorial companies publish information  that’s really attractive with the objective that people buy it and they can get money. So don’t believe everything that’s in a magazine and especially in a beauty magazine.
  • Definitely, the most interesting thing of a magazine is its design and its pictures.
Honestly, the first thing that a person sees in a magazine is the cover, and if it’s nice they they buy it and they don’t care what’s inside.
Unfortunately, there are magazines and books that are amazing but their cover is not colorful like gossip and fashion magazines.

  • Unfortunately, people think that magazines are more interesting than books.
Overall, the majority of Mexican people don’t like to read and for this reason, not surprisingly, they are looking for publications that have less pages and many pictures. The majority of people think that books are insipid and meaningless but a book can be touching and inspiring. Nevertheless, people don’t see this.
  • Magazines could potentially be the first way to start reading.
A good way to start reading is by reading a magazine because it’s short so you can’t bored because some people are afraid when they see too many pages and small letters. Magazines could be an excellent way to inspire children to read.

  • Frankly, some people think that magazines are formulaic.
Some magazines can be predictable or formulaic because it’s true that there are a variety of magazines but when you go to the newsstand there are a lot of magazines with the same subject: gossip, and these kinds of publications are clichéd and it does the magazine to become insipid, I mean without sense.
  • Unquestionably, magazines are cheaper than other publications.
Obviously magazines are cheaper than books because there are fewer pages than a book. Basically, the cost of a magazine is $22 but there are magazines that cost $50.
Magazines are evidently cheaper than a book but we can’t forget that a book can give you hours and days of engrossing stories.

Conclusions:

There are definitely not excuses for not to read because there are all kinds of interesting publications and a good way to relax is by reading a magazine.
Be open-minded and read science magazines too. They are engrossing, inspiring and they will never be formulaic and predictable like gossip magazines that nowadays are clichéd.

Superstitions

American people believe that the majority of superstitions are dubious and exaggerated. Many people admit that they carry good luck charms and avoid things or situations that bring bad luck.
Superstitions in America are really common and even if you don’t believe in them, they are difficult to ignore.

Some popular superstitions in America are:
  • Many people agree that saying “bless you” when someone sneezes is for good luck.
Many years ago people thought that if you didn’t say bless you to someone who sneezes, the devil would enter through the mouth.

  • Some people assume that finding a four leaf clover brings you good luck.
People thought that this was plausible because with a four leaf clover you can see devils and hazardous situations.
  • Many people explain that if you leave scissors open something bad will happen.
This was believable because many years ago open scissors was a death sign.
  • In Latin America people say that if someone passes a broom over your feet, you will never get married.
This iffy superstition is really common because a broom is a witch object and witches are a sign of singleness.

  • Some people claim that crossing your finger brings good luck
This is a well-founded superstition that is really popular
around the world and when you cross your finger you make a cross it is a sign of perfection that means everything will be ok.
  • In Latin America many people say that the day of your wedding you have to wear something “borrowed, new, blue and old”.
These credible superstitions mean that you have to wear something borrowed because it represents the present, something old represents the past, something new represents the future and something blue represents purity.

There are many superstitions around the world. Some of them are misleading and  others are convincing. Nevertheless superstitions have become a tradition that is hard to ignore.

Plastic Surgery

Plastic Surgery better and cheaper than ever.

Plastic surgery is a medical specialty concerned with the correction or restoration of the body.

The objective of plastic surgery is that a patient who was born with a congenital defect, that had an accident or simply for aesthetic can look better.

I’m all for plastic surgery because it has many benefits. The positive effects are:

  • People who have an accident

Plastic surgery could be the only solution for people who have an accident. The majority of the accidents kill or cause a lot of harm. The most typical are “car accidents”. In this kind of accident people can lose the structure of their body or face but also in burn accidents the skin can be really damaged and the solution at these problems is plastic surgery because it could make them look normal and feel better about themselves.

  • Congenital  defects

When we are born sometimes we are not normal. I mean a lot of babies are born with 2 fingers, sometimes babies are born ajoined and the only solution to these problems is surgery.

Of course plastic surgery is not perfect. Some negative consequences are:

  • Addiction

Plastic surgery can cause addiction. People who have had plastic surgery sometimes are not satisfied and they want another surgery. For these people it’s never enough because they want to be more beautiful and this is unhealthy.

• It’s hazardous

All surgeries are dangerous and plastic surgery is not the exception. When you undergo surgery you are never confident that everything will be perfect. The best doctor could do the surgery, nevertheless you could die.

“I’m all for Plastic Surgery if it makes people happy”

All people have something that they don’t like in their body so why not repair it?…

Plastic surgery used to be popular just in actresses that had a lot of money but nowadays it’s cheaper than ever.

I’m a bit leery of plastic surgery because it seems like everyone’s doing it these days so what is going to happen with natural beauty? Will people be plastic? I’m concerned about it because I think that natural beauty and the feelings of a person are more important.

In conclusion, it seems clear that the differences between the two sides of plastic surgery will not come to the agreement.

People need to have in mind when they undergo surgery that it could be hazardous and they have to do it responsibly.

Don’t just get dressed. Make a statement

I think that clothes are more than just stuff that covers you. Clothes reflect your personality and your likes so it’s important to choose your outfit carefully because it will show others who you are.
What people notice at a first impression is your appeareance. So it’s important to make a statement and give a good impression to others.

It’s not just being fashionable. You also have to feel confortable with your outfit because if you wear a nice dress but you don’t feel comfortable with it people will notice.
You have to get dressed for the occasion because being fashionable everyday can be tiring so I think that on sundays you can take a rest and wear confortable clothes but without lose the style.
I like to buy brand name clothing because it’s a waranty of quality but what people notice first is not the label you are wearing. What people notice first is if you look good with it.
It’s nice to have brand name clothing but the most important it’s how you feel with it because it will show your personality.
I don’t follow trends because sometimes I don’t like some of them so I try to make my own trend. I’m unique and I don’t like people to look like me.

The most important it’s to make a statement with your clothes and never lose your style!

Compare two english songs

The songs that I chose to compare are:

  • Boston (agustana)

  • The scientist (coldplay)

These songs are about love but on the other hand it tells you about broken hearts.

In the first song that is Boston it tells you that a boy fell in love but the girl doesn’t want anything with him indeed she doesn’t even care. This song is similar to “the scientist” because it also tell you about a broken heart and likewise the girl doesn’t care for him, nevertheless they have a lot of differences for instance:

In the first song he wants to move to Boston and leave California but in the second song he tells you that he doesn’t want to forget anything and he wants to come back to the start, on the other hand in the scientist song he keeps loving her and he wants to make up, he begs for an opportunity nevertheless in Boston he tells you that he wants to leave California because he is tired of everything, furthermore he wants to forget everything.

The meaning of both is about broken hearts:

  • Boston

It tells you that a boy fell in love but the girl doesn’t want anything with him and as a result the boy felt so bad that he decided to leave California and move to Boston. He doesn’t want to remember anything because it’s so painful for him.

  • The scientist

It tells you the story about a couple that broke up. The boy wants to make up with her and he decided to beg her to come back.

The song says that it wasn’t easy but they can solve the problem and come back to be the same, maybe the boy regrets something that he did wrong.

Quote

“Essential yet appealed

You carry all your thoughts across an open field

Where flowers gaze at you

They are not the only one who cry when they see you”.

It means that when h e see her he turns sad because he remembers all the moments that they had together and it’s so painful for him.

“Oh and I rush to the start

Running in circles, chasing tails

Coming back as we are”

It means that he wants to come back to the start like it was and that everything turns the same.

“I was just guessing at numbers and figure

Pulling the puzzle apart

Questions of science, science and progress”

It means hat he was looking for a way to reflect what he did wrong and how he could clear his mind.
